Contents & Purpose

Year 6’s current class topic is ‘The Ancient Greeks’ and as part of this they have been reading an abridged copy of The Odyssey. Across the school each class has a mascot in the form of a cuddly toy or similar, which is given out each week for exceptional work or behaviour.

The recipient is then invited to add an entry to the mascot diary detailing what they did during the week. As Y6 are the oldest form in the school the children have the option to have a mascot or not. Cedar class chose to have a mascot in the form of a cyclops.

Polystitches is a play on the name Polyphemus, the cyclops encountered by Odysseus on his journey back from Troy and the indirect cause of his many toils. Odysseus’ interacting with the cyclops and his subsequent blinding of Polyphemus, led to Poseidon’s wrath and delayed Odysseus’  journey home.
