Okot P’Bitek , 1931 - 1982

Okot P’Bitek, a poet, novelist and social anthropologist, was born on June 7, 1931, in Gulu, Uganda. He attended high school in Gulu and later in Budo Uganda. He later moved to Bristol University where he studied Education, then moved to the University of Wales in Aberystwyth to study law. He further studied for a Bachelor of Letters in Social Anthropology at Oxford. Added to his educational profile are skills in singing, dancing, drumming and athletics. He died from a stroke on July 20, 1982, in Kampala, Uganda.
