Homer at the University of Yaoundé 1 in Cameroon

The OMC Team from the Ecole Normale Supérieure, University of Yaoundé 1, Cameroon, prepared a unique session for Homer’s “Iliad” Day in the language Fulfulde (Fulbe), thus showing the potential of the “Iliad” as an epic poem that can be re-interpretated also in the context of Cameroonian culture. The conversation between Hector and Andromache has been reworked by the director – Prof. Divine Che Neba – for dramatic presentation. The author of the costumes is Elias Likavi Itonge, the photographer – Vitalis Akoh. In the roles of the Homeric protagonists:

  • Hector: Victor Zourmba
  • Andromache: Aicha Said
  • Son: Alvine Fomoneh

The actors gave to the ancient poem the force and life flowing from the tradition of oral story-telling still living in Cameroon.
